January 26, 2013 was the morning of my tragic fire here at the farm where so many of my animal friends lost their lives. That morning, I was alerted by a good Samaritan that had been driving by. He got my brother & I safely out of the house & cars moved, & then wrestled the hose out of my hands that I was trying to put out the fire with. I fought with him & he held me back. He helped me focus in my panic & hysteria & heartbreak & realize that there was nothing that I could do to save them at this point. He helped me get the farm animals out in the surrounding buildings that had started to melt.
After the fire trucks & help arrived he simply disappeared & I never knew who he was or how to thank him. This morning 16 months later he randomly drove up my drive way with his family to stop by & check on things. I gave him multiple hugs & cried as we re-lived that tragic day for his kids to hear. I apologized for the beating he got from me holding me back.
I'm so grateful that I finally got to thank him, learn his name & tell his children how awesome their dad is. I'm truly convinced that if he was not there to hold me back, I would have ran into that building to save my birds & would have died in the fire with them.
So "Russ Orent", Happy Fathers Day. You truly were my hero that day.
So today's show.... was a repeat customer... Mom says to me...
"Wow you look the same. Do you remember doing my other sons show? He was in second grade. But he's 19 now. "
OMG I'm old. That was 12-13 yrs ago!! Ahhhhh!!!!!
Progress is slow on the new Reptile / Bird Room but everybody's getting out! (And getting horse rides apparently!) Special thanks to Nora Naatz for thinking of the parrots when she saw the perches on sale!
